You start off the article by demonstrating the comparisons between you and Sydney Sweeney. You say “sadly” the comparison between you, and Sydney Sweeney ends because you work for a paper and she’s on the big screen. Yes, I do find it sad. It’s sad that you have a platform. It’s sad that your words ever made it to print. It’s sad that someone so ignorant writes for a paper. Maybe if you were paying attention, you would realize attractive women in acting roles often face, sexual, verbal abuse, and gross pay disparities. If only we had more “woke” DEI initiatives to protect them.
You say the ads are “playful”, there’s nothing playful about these ads. They are hateful and they are hurtful. If you had paid attention in history class and maybe if you had been inspired to do additional reading on Nazi Germany and American Eugenics, you would realize that. I’m willing to bet you couldn’t care less about anyone’s experiences outside your own.
In your article, you quote this line from the ad “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color”. You say that this is “clever and fun”. Clever, denotes intelligence, and there’s nothing intelligent about that statement. The science behind your genes, determining things like personality is still evolving and largely incomplete and in part speculative. If you care to do a few minutes of research, you will understand that environment is still largely considered to be the biggest factor in personality outcomes. This is interesting considering minorities are often forced into marginalized, unsupportive, and often forgotten environments. The word “often” in that statement could apply to personality in this context but as far as hair color and eye color, that’s not something that is often in genetics, it’s an absolute babe. so no, it’s not clever, It’s obtuse.
You go onto explain the only reason you are even talking about this is because “liberals have lost their minds over it”. I’d argue intelligent and rational humans should not only be losing their minds but flipping metaphorical tables. So many people throw the word liberal around like it’s an insult. Let’s take a look at the Oxford dictionary definition of liberal. “Willing to accept behavior or opinions, different than one’s own; open to new ideas”. I do not see the negative there. Every time someone throws out the word liberal in an insulting way I just think how lacking in intelligence that person is, nd how hateful their hearts and minds must be.
You mentioned in your article the revenue from sales will be donated to the crisis text line. I can honestly say I heard this from you first. In all of the ads I studied not a single one mentioned this. I find it to be an interesting choice since the LGBTQ+ youth specific crisis line was shut down. I guess in this country we only care about certain children. Donating to charity doesn’t absolve you of sin. I struggle to understand why people with wealth in this country do not seem to understand that.
You say that Democrats love “Focusing on race and gender identity to the point that it’s ostracized a large number of voters”. You fail to realize, many of us feel ostracized from both political parties because the Democrats and Republicans are the same. Democrats are just Republicans in a pretty package. They are not standing on business when it comes to the working class and human rights. Most of the time they can’t be bothered to represent their constituents’ wants or needs. The only thing that Donald Trump got right during his campaign was that yes, the political playing field is a swamp, but it’s a swamp that consumes both sides of the aisle. The only interests our politicians have in mind are their own interests and the corporations and countries that lobby them.
You go on to say “The country is still majority white, and these Americans are tired of being made to feel evil or unworthy”
Why is the United States majority white? We committed genocide against the natives, and I’d argue we continue to do so. We seized a large portion of what was historically Mexico. We continue to subject Black people to environments that ostracize and other them. Look at the life expectancy disparities marginalized people face in this country. In 2021 the average life expectancy for these groups were as follows: White Americans have a life expectancy of 76 years, Black Americans 71 years, and Native Americans 65 years. This isn’t because of some wild variation in genetics, this is by design. The minorities in this country are forced into oppressive systems that keep them separate and cut off from opportunities and care that they are more than worthy of. You are taught to hate anything perceived as different from you.
As far as “whiteness”, white is not an ethnicity. The idea of being white is another colonial tool of oppression. It’s meant to separate you from your ancestry and or your culture and minorities who don’t look like you. Instead of identifying as white, maybe look into where you came from. Maybe your French, Irish, Italian, Polish, etc. In doing so maybe you can discover the rich culture you came from. You should also feel privileged to have the ability to do so, because for most indigenous peoples and people of color in this country, they have no way of knowing who their ancestors or what their cultural heritage and practices were. That sense of self and knowing who your ancestors were, was forcibly taken from them in the name of assimilation. Of course it was never about assimilation, it was about erasure, control, superiority, and maintaining power. White race wasn’t conceptualized until the 17th century. It is a Colonial social construct with absolutely no scientific basis.
Most people would tell you that you are not responsible for your ancestor’s mistakes. Most people would not want you to feel evil or unworthy because of the horrors of the past. Ignoring the issue and costs of colonization and systemic racism only serves to perpetuate the harms it causes. Continuing the mistakes of the past and allowing racism, bigotry, misogyny, and xenophobia to exist in your institutions is what makes you responsible for what is occurring in the here and now. If you believe that your skin color makes you superior then yes, you should feel evil and unworthy.
You said, “no one should be made to feel that way”. You are so close with that statement, but you are too simple to hit the mark. If you had the capacity to think about anyone other than yourself, you would realize we live in a country where minorities are made to feel that way every day. I suspect that you may not know what feelings are.
Representation is important, but people who are always being represented will never understand how significant the impact of being represented in the media and other visible roles is.
“Companies and colleges are starting to roll back their diversity, equality, and inclusion adherence that felt oppressive in recent years and led to more division – not less”.
It’s equity not “equality”, but I’m starting to realize either that word might be too big for you or your interest in DEI stops at creating rage bate articles. I’m inclined to think it’s the later, and It’s no surprise to me that somebody like you would stoop so low just to get a shred of attention.
You say that DEI feels oppressive. You have no idea what oppression is. You either do not know, or do not care about the sacrifices, the women made before you, so that you could be educated, vote, write your opinions for a newspaper, have premarital sex if you so choose, or even be unmarried or get a divorce.
The women who fought for you to have the right to have such hateful and vapid opinions and be able to share them with the world as an occupation. Were beaten, raped, institutionalized, separated from their children, ostracized and lobotomized. I’m sure if they could see your shitty opinion article, they would be less than impressed with your blatant disregard of the sacrifices they made for you and other women like you.
I couldn’t even begin to list the oppression minorities have faced and continue to face. To categorize and explain the mechanisms and tools behind the oppression of minorities would take writing multiple books. Fortunately, books on these topics already exist, I don’t have to write them. I’m sure that since you support limiting access to books and book bans, you wish that weren’t the case, that these books didn’t exist. However, I’m sure you probably couldn’t be bothered to open one. Quite frankly, even if it was spelled out for you, I suspect you lack the capacity or compassion to comprehend what minorities suffered through and continue to suffer through today.
You also conveniently left out the fact that colleges and other institutions that receive federal funds were told to eliminate DEI programs or lose federal funding or worse, but good job trying to control the narrative and omitting the facts that give this statement appropriate context.
There’s a reason why white men in this country are doubling down on their hate. It’s called an extinction burst. It’s the same reason politicians both Democrat and Republican are allowing the disgusting things that are going on in our country and abroad, funded by our very own tax dollars. They are losing control of the majority in this country and are afraid that this will cause them to lose their power.
They have doubled down on the anti-minority propaganda and rhetoric in the media because the elites of this world are terrified that if we realize giving minorities a level playing field, which is the bare minimum. We will finally understand it is not the minorities in this country that are a threat to our survival, it is the robber barons, corporations and wealth hoarders who are the actual threat. They are afraid that we will discover that although we may look and express ourselves differently, we are very much one in the same. That we face the same injustices forced upon us by the ruling class. They know that if we were to truly have equality in this country and the world at large, our existence would be much more beautiful, peaceful, and prosperous for all of mankind. There is power in a united people and that terrifies the elites. If we ever collectively realized that we are living in a class war and that the only real divisive element here is between the ruling and working class. They would lose their power over us. The ruse would be over, and they would cease to serve a purpose.
This is why the current administration is so desperate to control and disparage the media outlets that do not align with their agenda. It’s purely to control the narrative. They want to create the illusion that Reich wing sentiment is the majority opinion in this country when nothing could be further from the truth.
This is also why this administration puts out flurries of executive orders, many of which are illegal and regularly blocked by the courts. I wonder how much time and money that’s wasting. They are trying to exhaust those of us who know what is right, just, and know what the truth is. They are purposefully trying to destroy not only this country but the will of the people so we will beg for their rotten agenda.
You end your article with “Good for American Eagle for bucking the DEI trend”. DEI isn’t a trend. It’s not a hairstyle or fad diet. It’s a way of living. It’s a part of breaking the chains of colonialism and quite frankly YOU are DEI. whenever the public attention is turned to a woman who God forbid made a mistake in her role, so many men are aggressively quick to point out that, “She is a DEI hire”.
Do you think that the same conservative men that you align yourself with in this country will let you continue to have a platform or opinion if they achieve their goals. They are using you. They are using you to garner support from and influence other women. They are using women like you to say, “hey look even the women agree with us.” This will be to your own detriment. Once you’re done serving your purpose to their cause they will take away your credentials, your platform, and they will silence you. Because a good woman is a quiet and subservient woman. No woman has power in a patriarchal society.
I almost feel bad for you, but you’re an educated woman, you have credentials. you choose to be ignorant. The only empathy problem I have is I have so much empathy for the people this administration and its supporters like yourself are terrorizing I no longer have empathy for people like you. I will not tolerate the intolerance, I will not agree to disagree, and I will certainly never forgive you. I will not lend a handout to you in friendship nor in support. You made your bed, and you will lie in it.
Without diversity we would be living in a sterile puritan hellscape, completely devoid of joy. Don’t ever forget that the puritans who colonized this country were not hanging witches, they were hanging women.

I’d also like to remind all the woman out there to remember that the beauty standards set by the entertainment industry are largely achieved by having wealth. Time and money absolutely can change outward appearance. Just check out Tom Brady’s glow up.
