Almost everyday for the past week, just before the sun goes down, I have had the immense pleasure of witnessing an owl fly away from its perch above the beaver marsh. 

I’ve also had a small opossum, born this year no doubt, visiting my compost bin nightly. We have now formed what I like to think is a sort of friendship. We’ve been in the height of a drought here in Maine, so I make sure to leave my little friend fresh water. I’d like to think that her tolerating my observations at a distance is a sign of thanks. 

I don’t have near enough time for art, as the decrease of available sunlight hinders my ability to create. Artificial I light is taxing on my eyes, and I’ve never been able to get the lighting to show my work in the way sunlight does. 

I suppose since the increase in colder weather seems to make my joints scream and fingers swell, that’s almost a good thing. But I tend to over do it rather than take frequent breaks while there is still glorious sunlight. 

Of course, this has prompted me to write again but I’m finding that the more that I do that is mentally stimulating and therefore taxing, I begin making many silly mistakes with spelling, punctuation, and grammar. 

We have managed to almost completely button up the farm for winter and have added balsam fir tips, red twig, winterberry, and other winter greens to the farm stand. We will hopefully start making wreaths and other winter arrangements and décor tomorrow. 

I’m optimistic that although the farm stand only made 40$ this summer that we will have much more interest in the wreaths. I also didn’t finish the stand until early August. I’d feel much less anxious about staying in Florida for a couple months if we had a little cash saved up. Fingers crossed!! 

I have a good feeling already about next season, we have two years to come up with $80,000 to buy this farm. This has been both our dreams. We will find a way to do this. We have to.
